October 5th, 2021 Meeting & Lecture

We would like to thank Professor Joe Holliday for joining us once again as a guest speaker. Until his recent retirement as a Geology Professor at El Camino College, Joe served as our liaison between the students and the the Wally Ford Scholarship that is funded by the SBLMS. Over the years, Joe has dedicated himself to teaching and connecting future generations with the wonders of Earth Science.

The topic of this presentation was the geology, glaciology, and oceanography of Antarctica. Joe has become very familiar with this topic through his travels and research in Antarctica with National Geographic, and at the time of this presentation, he was getting ready for another trip! We would like to once again thank Joe for sharing his knowledge and travels with us. Please click the video below to enjoy a recording of his presentation.

  2. Thank you so much for the email… I joined the SBLMS I believe fall of 1973. First field trip 1974 to “The Copper World Mine”… I so much enjoyed displaying 2 cases and the last I attended I was doing demos on making cabs from slabs to finished cabs. I suppose all of the old timers are gone… Is Mary still with the club? I know Dee past several years ago…

Do you guys still meet in the Torrance library?

Please say hi to all even the new members…

May God bless you and the SBLMS.

  3. Goodmorning I am very glad you are up and running again. This is Brandon Martin’s mother Denise. Brandon is now in college. His major is geology. This club has made a huge impact on his choice. He got full ride geology scholarship to Sacramento state university. He will be here for the January meeting.
